The Mechanical Faculty (MF) is the age-mate of the university. It was founded in 1980 and now integrates four departments: Motor transport; Lifting-Handling, Road-Building Machinery and Equipment; Department of Machine-Building Technology, Technologies of Mechanical Engineering; Engineering science, Mechanics and Engineering Graphics. The basic principles of training at the faculty are based on the use of both the traditional, and new educational technologies providing high theoretical and practical training of the specialists. The departments of the faculty have the latest software and laboratory base at the level of the leading higher educational institutions of the country. The students receive practical skills of work on the modern domestic and foreign equipment. The faculty students do their practical work at large industrial enterprises of the region and the country, including JSC RUSAL Bratsk, Ilim group (branch in Bratsk and Bratsk region), PJSC "KAMAZ" (Naberezhnye Chelny), LLC Transneft — the East, at the plants of the Ford Sollers company (Yelabuga), at the dealer center Caterpillar (Irkutsk).
The sphere of scientific interests of teachers and students is defined by a profile of departments and specialties. The major scientific subject is connected with improvement of car constructions, technologic principles of the production of the parts of machines and cutting tools, road building machines and their working bodies. The trainees master the following software packages - WinMachine, KOMPAS-Grafik, KOMPAS-Manager, KOMPAS-Avtoproyekt, CAD/CAE/CAM system, the SQL Server database management systems.
For the entire period of existence more than 5000 specialists have been trained at the faculty,: about 250 students are being trained here today.
The graduates of the faculty work in engineering and executive positions for the centers Caterpillar, Nissan, Mitsubishi, VOLVO, for the oil and gas companies, and also for industrial enterprises of the region, large or medium-sized company, in small business.
